Default premium or regular ? does it matter

ok so i was filling up my gas tank and was reading that it says to put 91 octane or premium into the tank. now do i really need to have premium in the tank. or is it not a big deal ? i put the premium in but the 87 octane is 10 cents cheaper. i dont know if any of you guys live in wisconsin but the prices are sky high so i pay 2.62 for the premium ... insane !!! ... let me know i'm still a student and need every penny to save and fix some things with the car. thanks

Please search the forums before asking questions. Yes it matters. If you put in lower octane fuel the ECU will retard the timing and performance to prevent detonation in the engine. Only use 91 and above.

you pay 2.60? i pay 2.80 for premium. keep puting premium in, like jest said it will mess up your car if you use the regular.

Our prices are similar in PA. I signed up for My Audi on Audi's website and on there is says you can use 87 but for best performance premium should be used, so that's what I use, I don't want any knocking.

In NYC some places are charging $3.00...in San Francisco last weekend I saw a place that was $3.15 crazy!!!!
I usually fill up in NJ and the average price is around $2.49...but it has been creeping up all summer.

Oh...and like Jest said...it makes a difference.
