A4 1.8T Tiptronic problems
Hi,
Iplan to buy this car. I saw one today with 100K,but Tiptronic is not working. It just stays in automatic. Does anyone know how much will it cost to fix it? Also, central display has missing lights (you can't really read it) and airbag light is on. How much for that?
The owner didn't change the timing belt and he doesn't know if it was replaced before. He bought it at 72K. Is it possible that the car still has the original timing belt?
Thanks,
CM

My display also is going out so I am interested in that answer, as far as the timing belt and stuff, if it has not been replaced you should replace it ASAP!!!! And also you will be able to hear a small pinging noise coming from the engine as the belt gets looser. Or at least thats what I have been told by a few Audi people in town. Anyone conferm this????
Yup do the belt asap. Nothing to chance at 100k miles. There are magnents inside the shifter mechanism that sometimes fall out or get lose which disables tip mode. There is a fix for it soemwhere, I dont know where it is, try a search. The center info display pixel problem is a problem for most people and there are no recalls or anything. Try a search on that if you want more info too.
exactly like onepoint8tee said:
1. don't chance your timing belt breaking. if your not sure it was done at 60k you should do it, it will be due in about 20k anyway if the girl has 100k on her, it's VERY important don't skimp and chance it.
2. the magnets fall out of place in the shifter (easy fix from what i hear, haven't had the issue myself tho so i can't tell you first hand)
3. it's very common for the display to loose a few lines and not be very usable, nothing you can do but buy a new display, not worth it in my opinion.
good luck.
