Default A4 1.9 tdi STARTING PROBLEMS

Hi -

I own a 2001 A4 1.9 tdi (5 spd manual vesion) (70 000km). Lately, when the motor is cold, it doesn't start easily. The engine turns for at least 5 or 6 seconds, and then only fires[:@][:@]. I had the compression checked, it's still over 19:1 on all four cylinders! What can be wrong? I hear that this problem is common, and usually related to compression loss. I was also told that this can usually only be fixed by replacing the entire engine...

PLEASE give advice / comments. the problem is getting worse.

Also - the gear box takes at least 20mins of driving to warm up properly! This shouldnt be the case, surely!!!

thanks,

Chris

Theres no way a compression test could get you a ratio. Are you sure its not a glow plug issue? Also make sure there isnt carbon buildup around the egr valve.
