A4 2.0 Engine management light on but car has no issues and drives fine!
Hi, this is my first post, i hope someone can help me.
I have a 2003 A4 2.0 fsi. It has 177k on the clock but a huge Audi service history with it, its had a lot spent on it over the years.
2 weeks ago my engine management light came on. A garage said they think it may be something to do with the CAT or at least the emissions but they are not 100% sure.
The car drives like a dream though, absolutely nothing untoward at all, very smooth, pulls well, no overheating etc etc.
Does anyone have any idea what it could be or a quick fix?
Any help welcome

You are going to need to pull the codes to see why the light came on. Might want to think about having an Audi dealer take a look at it as well to see what (if) there is a real issue. It is possible that there was a glitch that caused the light and resetting may all that is needed.
ok, thats good advice, thank you.
oh and someone suggested using a fuel additive from halfords called CATACLEAN, some of the reviews suggest it can fix this issue?
Well thats my plan B, but plan C would be resetting the car,. i have seen it done on other makes, sort of "open all doors and bonnet, insert key, turn it, off twice, on once" etc etc, the sort of tricks of the trade. Does anyone know how to reset the A4 doing this?

If you have the radio code easiest reset would be to disconnect the battery. However you are fishing in the dark right now not knowing what that code was about. A check engine light can be thousands of things and not all of them can be immediately "felt". Most check engine lights that don't change how the car feels or drives are usually emission related as already indicated - however you really need to pull the internal codes to see what was triggered.
+1 rhodes991 - Either go to an Audi Dealer who can pull internal / historical codes or have someone with a VAG-COM cable pull your codes.

Thank you to all the replies, very helpful and i will try and dig out the paperwork to find the error code they said, although i recall they did say it was def emissions and mentioned the CAT so i will try this cataclean stuff to see if it works before i take it to audi!
