Default A4 Advice from a pro needed.

Just got back the 95 A4 1.8 auto from Audi, I had it in for a diagnostics check. Not to bore you all I still have the problem with surging in low revs in 4th gear.

It came back with the following faults

17978 Supply voltage b+ Sporadic

16486 Mass Air Flow Sensor- G70 Signal too weak Sporadic

00532 007 This one was in norwegian or danish but again it said the signal was too weak and sporadic

Disconnecting the MAF makes no difference, do you reckon its lived a good life and needs burying?

Any idea's about the other faults?

Cheers

Andy

Sounds like Coil Packs to me... I'm certainly no pro, or expert though. That's just my opinion.

i had a coil pack and the ignition module go out on my car at the same time (most do). Although it wasnt surging, it just ran like **** and acted like it was going to cut off.

Surge in the Honda world means that the IACV is bad, or the coolant simply needs bleeding... Not sure how this pertains to the Audi world, but it may be something to check out. I'm sure our cars have an Idle Air Control Valve somewhere.

surgin is a thing that a turbo does but there a number of things that can cause it. deff dont change from setup to setup the only thing that changes is what causes surgin

99 A4 and prior have no MAP, disconnecting the MAF should put the car in a "safe" mode so you can limp home. Clean the Maf. Be careful though. I busted mine the other day cleanin it.

WOW. Thanks, loads to take in..

This is the real definition of surge: a sudden or abrupt strong increase

Thats what it feels like under light acceleration on 4th gear, the revs aren't dropping off, they are "surging" almost like a quick clutch slip!

Of course Audi wont give any advice and want the car in for further tests. I mentioned the problem with Audi MAF and how when I disconnect it it makes no difference, but he didnt realise there was any problems with the MAF's....

God help me!!

My humble opinion to any one who asks is, DO NOT buy an Audi unless you are as rich as a king or know a mechanic!!

Check your air filter (don't forget the slush screen) and clean your throttle body.
