Default A4 Alarm System Question

Had my first experience with my '02 A4's alarm system today, and I had a few questions.

Does the A4 alarm system prevent the car door from being unlocked, even from the INside?

I locked my key in the trunk, with all the doors locked. Roadside assist came out and used an inflatable diaphragm to create a gap in the upper part of the passenger door, then used the long narrow rod to get inside and try to unlock the doors. By the time he got the stick/rod in there, the alarm was already chirping/flashing. He tried pulling on the door handle with the stick (2 pulls at a time), and also tried pressing the unlock button. Neither worked. Did he simply not pull far enough on the lever, OR, does the alarm system automatically disable these modes of entry? We assumed both were disabled, and he ended up having to tow the whole car (4 off) to my home.

However, now that I have the key and got inside, I tried pulling the handle, and noticed the lever really must be pulled far. I wonder whether he simply did not pull hard enough, or whether the alarm system prevented it.

Any ideas? Thanks

Just tried that a few minutes ago -- guess what? I was able to open the door. The tow truck driver did not pull far enough on the handle. First thing he said when he arrived was he'd never done one of these before (dispatched thru Audi roadside assist, mind you). Seemed like a nice guy, but....should I be cynical about this? He got paid by Audi both for the unlock attempt AND to tow my car 70 miles. Had he pulled farther on the door handle, he would have succeeded in opening my door and I could have saved alot of headache...

yes... but if you have ever opened a door like that you will know that it is really hard in the first place.. lack of leverage, you get yanking on that thing, and the rod could fly off the handle and scratch your door panel or something else.. better safe than sorry i guess.. at least the problem is solved
