Default a4 cambelt tensioner

service &amp; cambelt at 77k by local reputable garage, at 82k tensioner let go. Should tensioner have been changed as part of service/cambelt change. Car back at garage that did the job carrying out the repairs, car in bits at moment looks like its going to come to a few quid, </P>

Yes, they should have replaced the tensione if they are reputable and know what they are doing. Some non-Audi shops just don't realize it needs to be changed. Especially change it if your car is model year 2K and below, because the tensioner is actually defective, and should be replaced with the new style.

See my pic posts to compare them.

If your tensioner did let go and it threw the timing you are going to suffer some large costs to fix the bent valves, etc. (between $2500 - $4000 here in the US)<edited><editID>brrman</editID><editDate>38001.645775463</editDate></edited>
