Default A4 died/possible voltage issues? Please help

My Audi A4 3.0 died this afternoon. The battery indicator light came on (battery was replaced last year.) I was able to immediately start the car and pull over, where it died again (after running for 10 sec. or so.) The battery indicator no longer came on, but the ESP indicator did. I was able to get the car back to my house (1 block away) but died again immediately after getting it into the garage.

The car has no trouble turning over but is idling between 400-1200 rpm's and idle'd roughly like this for about 5 min. The cabin lights, taillights and front parking lights dimmed and lit back to normal with the ups & downs of the idling.

My oil light came on about 2 mi. short of home, before it died. I was also low (not close to being out) of gas but I added both.

I know I'll likely need to get it towed, and my first guess is the dreaded alternator..but any of you have any other ideas/suggestions? Any prompt response is really appreciated!

try unpluging the maf sensor, if that fixes the problem try cleaning it with either rubing alcohol or maf cleaner from auto zone. hope that helps,

are you getting a cel?
