A4, are maintenance costs worth it?
no problem... before i got my audi, when reading user reviews, etc. i was scarred too. a lot of the reviews out there seem to be about people who got taken advantage of, or they took their car to a shop where bad troubleshooting was used to diagnose a problem. If you do get an Audi, I HIGHLY recomned that you pick up an OBDII scanner or especiallyVAG-COM www.ross-tech.com When/if something does go wrong that causes a CEL, it becomes a priceless tool to have with these cars. vag com is basically what the dealers use for diagnostics and you can do some other fun stuff with it too.
Think of it like this... the people who buy Audis and complain usually take it to the dealer and get raped by the extreme charges. Audi's aren't magic, they're fairly easy to work on and if you DIY or have a good independent shop it won't cost a whole lot more to have one.
Also, as far as reliability goes, I know people who drive hondas and toyotas and neglect their cars more than anyone else I know. They just think they'll run forever... which obviously isn't true. If you keep up with regular maintenance, like with any car, it will last a while.

and don't forget whenever you buy any used car you gamble a little. unless you knew the person that owned the car before you, you won't know how it was driven, how it was maintained (unless done at dealer) or anything else. you can buy an awsome 2000 with no problems for the next 100k miles or you can buy, say an '05 and have all sort of issues. a safe bet from what i was told is to have about 10% of the cars price to spend on the car right after getting it, like murphy's law or something
I bought my car (00 1.8TQ) in July with 64,000 miles. So far I have replaced the windshield, 710N, clutch, 4 tires, brakes and rotors all around, timing belt kit from ecs, one headlight bulb, K+N filter, and have done 4 oil changes. I still need to replace the fuel sending unit, get my rear window re-sealed because the bottom is loose, one control arm, and a wheel bearing, and the climate control buttons stick like crazy. I will definitely be getting back into Chevrolet trucks because I've had them for the last 7 years and put barely anything into them. I'm a truck guy what can I say. Although it was the best car that I found for around $10,000 I don't think its worth it.

you got a lemon my friend.. or you beat the **** out of it
I beg to differ....Dave....I have owned both........I had both a civic and accord, the first 5 years i owned the civic it did not go to the shop one time, except for oil changes. I ended up owning for a total of 9 years 270,000 miles, I replaced the timing belt and some other normal maintenance after the 5 year mark, all in all an extemely reliable, not one breakdown. I bought a 2006 audi, in the first 3 months i had to take it back to the dealership 4 times for electrical problems and a steering issue. For every little bit that audi is a nicer, more luxurious, etc of a car than a honda...the honda is equally more reliable. One of my co-workers bought a 2006 audi as well, and she had many issues, she ended up selling her's and buying a Lexus IS 250.
Now, I love audi's quattro, and the fact you feel like your driving around in a mini tank, I loved my audi but for reliability it was the worst car i have ever owned........
To ever state that an AUDI is as reliable/problem free as a Honda is pure insanity. Same goes for mercedes/BMW/Volvo....they are beautiful cars, very comfy, very fast....but for reliability...CRAP. I would like to see you put over 200,000 miles on an audi engine.

the answer is maintenance regardless of what car you drive,
I fix many makes of cars for a living and have lots of ideas which is the best car made but still cant put my finger on it lol but Audi make good cars without a doubt and so does Honda/Toyota and some very tasty American cars.
problem is people come to a site like this and mainly see problems with Audi and dont realise that's what these sites are all about ( fixing ) now going to any other site will be the same regardless of make you will always find a problem
