Default A4 performance question/parts advice

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum. Figured I'd get that out. I'm going to be picking up an 2000 A4 1.8T quattro 5-spd later today. I have a problem with modding any car I own, soI'm going to mod this car. My goal is 550 crank hp. Looking for some advice as to what parts would be the best for performance. All my cars are turbo so I have a good amount of knowledge on them. I'm also curious with what companies are good to deal with and those that are considred "bad" companies.

For anyone that has modded there cars to a nice whp post your mod list up for me.

The rods are the weak link on the 1.8t. Over 350whp, and you're going to put a rod or two through the block. It's pretty expensive to get the much from the 1.8t. The 2000 was also the first year with the small intake ports and throttle by wire.

What kind budget are you looking at?

You're going to need quite a bit. Rods, injectors, fuel pump, intake manifold, intake, exhaust, downpipe, computer, new turbo (or a full kit)............etc and mainly a lot of $$$$

As far as companies to avoid, do not buy an exhaust manifold from ATP. They're a complete pain to install and are known for cracking. Most other products from them are pretty good, just be sure to check your parts out. For an example, I ordered some coolant line parts. One of the banjos didn't have a coolant channel cut in it. They sent me a new one for free as soon as I notified them.

well internal work is a must. your probably gonna need a gt30 series turbo. personally, i wouldn't spend that much for the amount of hp i would get. i would buy an s4. but if you want to do it with the 1.8 i won't stop you lol. an fmic is a must, nobody menationed that lol

Better budget in there for a clutch too - no way in hell an OEM clutch would hold that power. I'm not sure about the axles - I know there are guys making big power, but I don't know about whether they're on stock axles. And you aren't gonna want to trust that kind of power to the OEM brakes either, so you better look into beefing them up. Might want to deal with the stock suspension too and look into upgraded motor and snub mounts too. If you're going to do that kind of a build, you're best off building everything else to cope with it too. Plan on writing checks with numbers that look like phone numbers if you really want to do it right. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of a car that can do one thing (say, accelerate) but can't hold up in braking and handling. Styling is your choice - keep the body OEM if you want, or mod that. Just make sure you're smart with the mechanicals by doing everything that the car will need to stay somewhat manageable. Personally, I wouldn't want 500whp on an OEM suspension - it'd handle as predictably as a bipolar five-year-old.

I was planning on boring and stroking my 1.8 to 2.0 for 450awhp a while ago. Motor and tranny parts added up to $10k. Brakes and suspension were another $5k.

In all honesty you are better off simply buying a different car. If it absolutely has to be an 1.8T A4 then go for it, but you are looking at dumping more money into it than it will really be worth in the end. I cant says its not a noble goal though.

I just bought it a few hours ago. It had to be these car due to the price. Uncle passed away so I was able to pick this car up for cheap. a realistic budget for me would be 10k-12k. Hell the supra stroker kit was 9.5k. How are these motors with oiling issues?

I was planning on a gt3582R turbo because I got like 4 of them lying around from my TT set-ups before. Anyone know the limits of the crank/block? I figured pistons and rods would have to be replaced. I'll have the heads machined, and have some larger valves installed. I got fuel pumps and -an lines and fittings for everytthing so that isn't much of a problem.

The caris actually a 99.5 A4 1.8T. got it for 750. So I'm up for anything in the performance category. Rims and tint etc. can come later.

why? there aren't alot of blocks that can handle over 700hp and 7500rpm w/ just new rods. you want 550chp a 3076r will get you there. you will need rods, a new exhaust manifold, turbo, tp, exhaust, custom intake, bigger maf, fuel pump, afpr, injectors, clutch, mounts, fmic, and software.

and you should look for a pre-00 a4 cause they have the AEB engine, which is ideal for your setup. 99.5 would be ideal, cause it has the upgrades of the 00 model w/out the drawbacks (dbw and smaller ports).
