Default A4 Rear Left Tail Light Assembly

I've replaced all of the bulbs and still notice that the left taillight appears to be a much brighter red than the right side. Maybe the previous owner put an aftermarket assembly in there cause it got hit - I don't know, but it drives me crazy. Has anyone else had this happen or does anyone know if this is possible. I have an '01 A4 1.8T FWD

Thanks,
Andrew

This may be a stupid question, but you don't have your rear foglight on do you?

How do you get access to the left tail light assembly on A4 Avant 2002 model? I am astounded to discover the manual doesn't explain how to change a blown lamp, and they insist I go to the main dealer - who has quoted me 25 pounds (UK) to do this job - or or pay 18.4Euro to download each section of the service manual from their web site (and they cant tell me if this is covered under "maintenance" or "electrical repairs".
I am disgusted!
