Default A4 recall questions...

I just bought a 98 A4 2.8 FrontTrak. It came with the books, and inside the owners thing there were 2 pieces of paper about recalls - Recall Campaign KW - Replace Tie Rod Ends, and Recall Campaign KU - Install Brake Booster Vacuum Bypass kit. I can't tell whether either of these recalls were done on the car. Theres a place for a Dealer stamp and Service Manager's signature on the recall forms, but they havent been stamped nor signed. I did call my nearest Audi dealer (2 hours away) and gave them the VIN but they say "there are no outstanding recalls on my vehicle". The guy i talked to was a jerk - i asked him if that meant they had been fixed already, and he just said again "our records indicate no outstanding recalls on your vehicle". I asked him again if that meant they had been performed already, and he got snotty with me and said that was a question for the previous owner. Anyway, do any of you all know, based on experience, how to tell for sure whether these recalls have been performed or not? Thanks for your help.
Daniel

Default RE: A4 recall questions...

There would be no way of knowing about the tie rod ends - they just need to be replaced. The bypass kit may be recognizable, but I'm not sure.

I'd call Audi of America and ask them your original questions and emphasize that you don't want to be driving an unsafe car because that could pose problems for you and your insurance. Let them know that your insurance company needs to be assured that the service is/was performed.
