Default A4 relibility

Right now I drive a 2000 A4 1.8tq and I am just woundering what these cars are like at higher milage I bought this one from the dealership where I work with 96000km on it that was about 4.5 months ago now I already have 115 on it now we don't see to many high milage A4's come into the shop hereI am just woundering what would be the milage i could get out of this think now my last car was a riced up acura integra w gsr with the body kits and white rims and i drove the crap out of that everytime i got in it and when i sold it it had 30000o on it but it burned like a litre of oil a day the tranny 2,3,4 grinded most of the time. but since then I have grown up a bit I don't drive my A4 like I stole it lol but every once and a while I like to spool up the turbo not many mods right now but looking to get a chip very soon.

I would say that compared to other cars out there, the A4 is not very reliable. I have a 99 2.8, which quite a bit changed in 2000, but I've put much more money into this car than any other I've had. In spite of this, I love to drive it...

From what I've read they arent reliable. For the brief time I had mine it was fun as hell to drive.

I took it back, and am getting a new Jetta this week.

I have a 2000 2.8 A4 with 44k. I am waiting til the end of the year and selling it.
I am having all sorts of problems with this car.
It's great to drive and I have always wanted one, but I will never get another one after this.

How an Audi behaves at higher miles relies on how it has been treated. An Audi is nothing like a Honda Civic. These cars must be babied, and preventative maintenance is key. Typically, they don't break very hard. Seems like a lot of little things go wrong with them.

If you're concerned with it having problems then sell it and get one that is Audi Assured.

What preventative maintenance should I get done? What would you consider necessary, and what should I just "keep an eye on"?

I'm getting my squeaky control arms all replaced next week, as well as the outer tie rod ends. I've heard that I should look into getting the serpentine belt replaced, as well as the water pump. I've got 70k miles on my 99 30v a4, and want to drive it as long as possible!

timing belt/water pump/thermostat needs to be done at appropriate times.

Keep an eye on vacuum hoses for leaks and cracks. Keep an eye on your CV boots for cracks or holes (if grease gets out and water/dirt gets in you will eventually have to replace the cv joint). Change spark plugs are required times, air filter, oil and filter changes at regular intervals... Stuff like that.

When something goes bad it stresses another part of the car, so eventually if you dont maintain the car, things build up and you'll find that several things will be bad at once when a single part finally decides to die. This is when we get people complaining out the *** because everything seems to be going wrong with their car. Most times its not even their fault, but the fault of a previous owner.

Well, I'm new here, so pardon me if I step out of line on this. As for reliability, the different engine types available in the A4 are what make the biggest difference in reliability. Every Audi mechanic and almost all current/former owner I have spoken with say that the 1.8T is the most reliable engine and the 2.8 is the least. The turbo engines do require some extra preventative maintenance that the normally aspirated engines don't. I have a 2000 A4 Avant 1.8T and the only problem I have had with it is that the oil sump screen recently clogged requiring a replacement, prabably something more apt to happen on a turbo engine. I have 109,000 miles on mine and have been very pleased with mine. I followed the Audi reccomeded maintenance schedule, but changed oil more frequently.
