a4 sc vs s4
right now the prices for used 2.8l a4s in my area are in the $11k range, while the s4 is $26k.
besides the twin turbos on the s4, what other differences are there between the cars?
otherwise i will more seriously consider purchase of a used a4 2.8l and the supercharger kit from pes.

right forget the new stuff... i mean why did they do the v8 - that's a different question altogether.
the question i'm asking is say between a '99 a4 and a '99 s4..... what are the differences?
aren't they both nearly the same engine... i imagine the s4 may have a lower compression ratio and a beefed up transmission - BUT what other diferences are there? the body style? the interior? suspension? colors available?
is there really a $10k markup (at least in my area) for just the turbo?
why not get the a4 then , and apply the supercharger kit. the kit looks clean (ecu modification controlls fuel and timing under boost - no rising rate regulator or other odd hacks). any opinions on the supercharger kit? they claim "to have quite a following" - but i've yet to find anyone with one. i know the eaton was used in some of the jackson racing kits for civics too, without much positive impression from users.

There's a lot of little stuff that most people overlook besides the big stuff (suspension, transmission, clutch, turbo, interior, etc) that are different, unfortunately I don't have an expansive enough knowledge of the differences to get into specifics. I would be willing to venture a very confident guess that if you are willing to overlook some of the less important things like the interior and facia (basically the stuff that is for show and all the proprietary doo dads that Audi used to jack up the price) that you could definitely beef up a normal A4 to either compete with or surpass an S4 of the same year. With the right research and effort it is possible, it's just that a big portion of the money goes into labor. So if you have your own full service garage or know a friend that can cut you a deal, it would be worth while to check it out.

The S4 is a 2.7 V6 with twin turbochargers.
It has a different tranny amd clutch.
It has a lower sport suspension with solid sway bars (rather than hollow).
The interior is leather and has a unique S4 styling.
The Imola yellow, Santorin blue colors were exclusive to the S4's.
These are just some of the obvious differences, but the list goes on....
