ok , i've disconnected the dashboard , cleaned connections and replaced ,
jacked the car up and disconnected the connections on the gear box , sprayed them with wd40 and reconnected , went around every wheel and disconnected and cleaned up the speed sensors , and reconnected .. i then drive around the block and every thing was still the same , i.e. no speedo or milage ... So i gave up , packed everything away , washed up and went over to my mates house , which is 1 junction of the motorway away, now when i joined the motorway and got to about 80 mph the speedo jumped back into life , and was fine for the rest of the day , so am now well lost as to what it is ... Any ideas ???

Sounds like a loose ground connection. Anyone have a wiring diagram to wee where they interconnect?

I am having the exact same issue. My car is a 98 A4 1.8T and both my speedo and gas gauge are acting up. Problem seems to have started when I went over a tall bump a few weeks back (my car is lowered). Anyone have any luck with this issue?

My 01.5 did the same thing, but only once on a highway, once I got off, I pulled over and restarted the car.. and it's never happened again. this was about 4-5 days ago.
