Hey I have a 1997 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro Automatic and randomly today when the car was in the garage the car wont go into reverse but every other gear. I dont know what the problem could be and there was no signs that the transmission was bad. If anyone has any ideas or has heard of any similar problems please respond to this problem.

Geez whats with all the auto tranny issues lately...
Probably a linkage problem.. Im not sure if you can get to the linkage from the bottom.. Might want to take a look underneath. If not id be taking my gear selector appart.

 

Alright im not sure what that means my dads good with this stuff. I called the Audi dealer and they said the tranny would cost more than the car so i hope i dont need to replace that. My dad thinks its like a selonoid or neutral connection switch or something. Do you think that could be the problem.

is it just me or is the automatic a bad way to go with an audi? Because every thing i have read on the web and on this site have had alot of trouble with the automatic and hardly any with a stick? anyone know about this or is it just a coincidents!

 

never go with the auto mine has been in the shop 6 different times now once for a rebuild

 

Well our trannys aren't no TH350 or T-4 that's for damn sure

 

no, people have just been having bad luck latley.

as for the dude with the messed up tranny im sure ur not going to need to replace the whole thing, (unless theres something ur not telling us like you fried the gears trying to race a honda) lol... dont worry and dont take it to the dealership thell tell you that you need a new tranny and new blinker fluid. find a good transmission person in ur area.
