my buddy had a problem that sounds really similar to that with his jeep, and it was the starter. the same deal with the trouble for a couple of days then it progressed. he used to wait like 20 minutes or so and it would start, then it just died and wouldnt start up at all. he had the starter replaced and everythings good now.

Yeah I would go with starter or an electrical cable going to it. Starters when they fail will work when cold and not work when hot (usually) because of the change of resistance. If you have a volt meter you can test your voltage across the solenoid (I don't know where it is but my guess would be connected to the starter that is common on newer cars. I leave Electrical Stuff to the dealership. (Got a D- in electrical engineering). Not wanting to run well though would not be caused by the starter. Which is why I say a cable. Really before replacing your starter, get checked out because a cable is a lot cheaper and would be able to manage almost all of your accessories, but not keep your car alive. Also if your battery dies in few days (or from the sound of the after party experience is already dead) I would go with a battery cable because your Alternator would be not recharging the battery (because of cable resistance) but could maintain the lights and crap as long as you could start it. Make sense? Anyway, electrical problems are a pain to chase down but that is what you seem to have.

May still be a dead battery. How old is the battery and when was the last time you checked the electrolyte level in the cells?

yeah david could be right too, all the accessories/nav/stereo worked it my dads 996 turbo but it wouldnt start. just replaced the battery and now he keeps it hooked up to a trickle charger when not driving it. that could be your issue.

Ive had this happen many times over the years on different vehicles. The most common cause for me by far was a bad ground. Usually the connection on the battery itself or where the ground cable connects to the engine. It is not likely to be a bad battery if the problem keeps lingering. Batteries usually fall on thier face. I wouldnt think it to be the starter but, its certainly possible. It could also be an alternator or you could have a leak. With your key out of the ignition, you could put an amp clamp on the +12v cable to the battery. I would expect to see a little current (less than 100 milliamps) but thats about it.
