About Audi's ~
Well i just bought an A4 1.8T today. I'm just wondering what the stock psi its running on.
I'm just wondering what the stock psi is before i actually get a boost controller and up the boost.
i heard you can boost around 18 psi safe? well, someone help me i would really appreciate it.
i just wanna know what the stock psi it comes with, and what you can boost being safe.
thanks !

It should be 9 psi, you should be saft to boost 18 psi on the stock fuel system and engine block.
Check cincyTT's signature, it will link you to his illustration of the diode mod which will give you more information than you will know what to do with.

Depending on what yr you have.
97-00 = 8-9 psi
01= 10-11 psi
If you have a 97-99 then dont up the boost much, if at all, via MBC. There is nothing to protect your engine from detonating and blowing up.
If you have 00+ then you can safely up the boost with a MBC and diode mod like auditech is talking about. Or you could get a chip (GIAC, APR, REVO, and more.)

i got a 1998
so does that mean i cant put the boost up to 18 and be safe?
i was planning to get a new turbo in the future, with new ecu, intercooler, boost guages with oil etc. and a greddy type s bov.

It means you can't get a MBC and do the diode mod to up the boost.
Look into a GIAC chip ($400) and a 710n diverter valve ($40). It'll bump it up to like 17psi (200bhp).
edit-
OH MY GOD NO!! Unless you're running standalone engine management, or you recirculate the bov, don't put it on the car. It'll make it run rich! search for more information on why.
What turbo are you thinking about upgrading to? k04, gtrs, gt2871 elim, full gt28r, etc?
If it's the k04, then go ahead and get the giac chip until then because giac gives you a pretty good discount on the k04 software if you're already chipped by them. If it's anything else, just save your money so you wont be buying tuning twice.

shouldn't i just save up for a turbo and get an ecu. im planning on getting T28's
i just need help since im new and im wondering whats the best way to go to get some good whp.
so yeah what do you guys suggest i do? since im sure you guys have been through it.

It really depends what your power goals are, and how much you want to spend.
If you want to hit over 230awhp, you're looking at a good $4,000. At that point you would have to have: clutch, fmic, turbo, fueling (pump and injectors), exhaust, intake, and tuning. (I may be forgetting some stuff, but that's most of it)

what if i didnt want to get new turbos.
could i just get a chip, exhaust, bov, intake, and would i be able to put a mbc then?
sorry if im asking stupid questions. i just got one today
im really excited to start doing upgrades!!!
i really appreciate your help like alot!
well im gonna get some sleep.
i really want to up the boost, since it's like stock 150hp? and that's the the crank. so thats pretty much what i want to do. so im guessing i need to get a new ecu chip. and other crap and i should be able to put the boost up?
well thanks for the help.
i'm gonna go to sleep, hopefully i get more advice.

Nope, the way the engine management that is on the <2000 cars, the ecu asks for a certain amount of boost from the turbo, and puts an appropriate amount of fuel in for that much air. When you put more air in, it results in a lean air/fuel ratio, which is one way to blow an engine, quick.
A chip reprograms the ecu for more boost, and fuel.
If you're staying with the stock turbo, the best bet would be to get a GIAC chip, custom make a cai, buy the $80 heatshield off of audizine, 2.5" catback exhaust, test pipe or high flow cat, an appropriate sized fmic, and keep the engine running in tip-top shape (seafoam it, flush the radiator, replace any leaky lines).
Also, IMO, a JHM short shift kit, 034 or Stern motor/tranny mounts, and some coilovers/swaybars/wheels would go a long way in the driving experience.

thanks dude, i went over to neuspeed today and they were selling a chip for 399$ wow. he said its +25 hp im not sure to the wheel or crank and 50 lbs of torque. im not sure but yeah, i'm trying to get decent speed out of my audi. to me right now it's kinda fast, but not fast enough. that's why i'm always wanting to put the boost up.
so me putting a bov on my car is going to burn alot more gas? can someone care to explain that to me please
i really want the greddy type s bov on my car, if its gonna make it run rich, then im gonna have second thoughts.
that thing you recommended how much hp do you think its gonna be pulling after everything is done?
thanks for your help bro.
