Default AC Problem or Not

This is what's happening in those days (btw weather is toooo cold). When I hit the front glass defroster button, normaly AC kicks in. In those days it does not. After I hit the defroster ac does not kick, when I hit ac button ac light come on in display and immidiatly goes off. Is it something I dont know or my ac has problem ? Any ideas folks ? I hope I could explain well.

Thanks
