Adding Tranny fluid PICS!!
I have an 04 A4 1.8T
I went to change the oil and I think I drained about 2 quarts out of the auto transmission (first timer, sorry.) It looked like oil, it was brownish and sooty so I figured I was at the right spot, turns out I wasn't. I removed the bolt that has the hex head, it was about an inch from the special 12 prong head bolt.
I need some help on how to get some fluid back in there. I have no dipstick and I am assuming that I need a pump of some sort.
I did find the oil drain plug after removing the front skid plate.
TIA for any help.

First, dont drive it. Second, there is a drain and fill/check plug for the tranny. You do need a pump to fill it. Put the car on jack stands to make sure you can get under there and have room, and to be sure the car is level. If you dont have vag com, do a cold start and let it run for 10-15 mins-idleing. Then put some PENTOSIN ATF (get it from www.purems.com) in a fluid pump. The fill/check plug comes out and there is a hole on the side that you stick the hose from the pump through (you cant just stick the hose straight up in there, it has to go in at a 90 degree angle. You can stick your finger up there and feel for the hole on the side that the hose needs to go through. Start pumping the fluid in until it starts coming back out. Also, its sort of necessary to have a helper sitting in the car going through each gear (with foot on brake!)every 15 seconds (R(15 secs), D(15 secs), 3(15secs), 2(15 secs), 1(15 secs) WHILE you are pumping. Here is a DIY article that basicaly explains the entire procedure, and everything I just said:

It would probably be wise to just to a complete drain/refill anyway. The auto tranny fluid is NOT good for the lifetime of the car/tranny as Audi states. No fluid retains its lubricating properties forever. Good luck.

OP8T, I greatly appreciate the response. It's my wife's car and I feel like an idiot for doing this. Is there a temporary alternate fluid that I can use that I can get at a local auto parts store? She needs the car for work on Monday and I don't have the special lug that is used for the drain. If not, I can just let her use my car for a week like I did when I lost her key[:@] Thanks again for the help and links.
Okay, it doesn't seem like I have the typ of transmission that has a "pan." I have a front wheel drive model and I don't think the pump method will work for my car. I open the hex plug and fluid streams out. There is no way to stop it and put more in. However, I did find another hex nut that looks like it might be the fill hole for the transmission. It is right next to the front left axle. Is this the fill holel and how much fluid do I put in?
Your pan should look like this, or similar:

The big one is the fill plug. The small one is drain. If fluid comes out from the fill plug, its because it was over filled (slightly) from the factory-as many are. Mine was. The ATF also has to be at a certain temp while checking level/filling. Normallymonitored with vag com- (45 deg. celcious i think) or you could just let the engine run on a cold start for 10-15 mins and it should reach that temp.

I wish it did. There is no pan per say. It's all a casting and doesn't have a pan that you can just drop down. I wish I could take a pic, but no D.C. It's front wheel drive, so the tranny is all different than a quatro.
