I'll be able to take pics tonight, but I hope to have it done by then. I think it is actually the diff. oil that I drained. I checked the level of the oil in the diff. at the axle and none was to be found. I never touched the "special nut" that is the transmission drain nut. So, I'm fairly sure that it is the diff fluid that I drained. Clarification would be nice though.

Thanks.

Here are the pics, as you can see, not really a pan there like the one you showed. I'm still pretty sure that the 12 point socket is the drain, and I suppose that the hex is the fill, but when I removed it it poured about 1-1/2 quarts out. I know they're usually overfilled from the factory, but that's alot to me. Also, there is a smaller hole inside of the bigger hole that I can't even fit my finger into. So, I don't know how I would fill it.

ok newer trannies must be different, appearance wise. The hex plug is the fill/check. The hole inside the bigger hole is where you stick a small hose-connected to your fluid pump-which holds the atf. (now i see why Audi claims the tranny is a sealed unit... as in no way to replace the filter... Damned newer cars.)

I went by the Audi dealership by my house and they were nice enough to take me into the garage and let me show them what I was talking about on a 1.8T that was on the lift. I sure as heck didn't expect that. And I sure didn't expect them to give me a bottle of Tranny fluid for free on my way out. Also, the tech told me that the transmission filter is that black canister in the upper right corner of pic 2 with the plumming coming out of it. At least that't a little more convenient than having to drop a pan to change the filter. Yay newer cars.

That's what I was thinking, The tech just handed it to me and the Service guy was standing there saying it was a $30 bottle of fluid. Of course I knew this and thanked him for his kindness and walked out with it. I must say I was waiting for them to give me a "oh, you have to tow the car in or something, we can't help you, but they were more than accomidating. I need to write a letter to the manager of that place telling him what good service I received. I'm pretty sure my wife wouldn't have recieved the same service. They are pretty rude to her when she goes there.

you might not want to add the fact that they gave you a free $30 bottole of ATF.
