AEB or ATW?
i used to say the same. in fact, when i drove the mr2spyder daily, i decided i'd never own a car that even offered an auto. that being said, what i thought was driving was just getting by until i finished eating/drinking so as not to create a mess. this was illustrated by my spilling of coffee in the boxster a couple of months ago when i tried to DRIVE it like i do the audi. try drinking a full cup, making a hard left @35mph and quickly downshifting to accelerate out of the turn. w/either hand, you're screwed. steering wheel needs to turn too much. shifting hand neds to shift too quick. cup holder and a body in motion stays in motion. that's the spill. anyone can putt w/grandma and sip tea. maybe you guys just putt. tip lets you just go. no waiting. also, the tip reacts the same as a stick and some of us actually shift/maintain gear/use only the tip on a regular, daily, basis. come over to the other side. do the same stuff easier.
note-this is the 4th automatic i've owned and the only one to make it past 3 months. other sticks-mustang, 280z's, 240sx, turboII rx-7, 96 prelude DOHC VTEC, mr2spyder, and a daily driver for years of a corolla. a corolla stick, that's rare, that's stick dedication.

Dont eat or drink while you drive, very simple.
Also, dont talk on the phone, **********, or otherwise distract yourself from the task at hand, I.E. DRIVING.
Then you will find a manual tranny as the perfect companion to a quattro vehicle.
