How do u install an aftermarket HU in a 99.5 or higher? The ones where the stereo is huge not just wide like the one in my 99.

 

Hahahahhaaha is your car a 2000 with non-bose? Has the audi symphony single disc player?

YEEEEEEP I'm in the same boat as you, no aftermarket kits are available -- or so I've been told. I'll be putting that to rest today at 10:30... so I'll post when I get home. I've called about 7 or 8 stereo shops, and got quotes from 110 - 250 to make a custom one. The 110 dollar quote was from one of the more reputable shops in ontario (canada) -- so if at 10:30 my stereo shop fails to produce a fitting kit, I'll be on the phone with this other shop in Toronto, and get the car booked ASAP for the 110 dollar custom job. He described it as being made of MDF wrapped in vinyl, and he'd put recessed Audi rings below the head unit. Sounds nice to me! I'll post pics REGARDLESS of what happens, and if you want, I could probably get the shop to make a 2nd one, if you pre-paid for it. Then I'd ship it to you.

I couldnt believe the aftermarket kits... they fit: 1996 - 1999.5, then 2001+ UH HUH. So if your in a 2000 non-bose... your screwed.

My shop ordered a kit for a 2002, convinced it will fit... but it wont -- my dad has a 2002, and although the HU is the same shape, the 2002's is about an inch narrower.

 

Just an update... the dash kit that so many stereo shops assured me would fit, does not. So, I'm getting the custom one made tomorrow. PM ME IF ANYBODY IS INTERESTED IN A CUSTOM DASH KIT -- I'll ask these guys to keep a template, to make extra's as people want them.

 

i dont have the new car yet, Probably around september or october but i wanted to make sure its possible to put the stereo i have now in the car.

 

so your selling the 99, and getting a 2000?
the 2000, no aftermarket kit is available for the HU... 2001 your OK i think.

these cars are a bastard to wire as well.

 

im selling my 99 2.8 (or will be) when i get enough money to buy a 2000 S4.
