AHHHH CEL
I realize you can't get a full on computer for home use (big $$$) but a simple OBD2 scanner can be had for about 20 bucks. Fleet Farm, Wal-Mart, many auto shops have them. Why pay a dealer or even take time to go to the dealer when you can scan yourself? I purchased a "Beater" for $900 bucks. The CEL is on, and keeps coming on. I have reset it several times, but it's just an O2 sensor tripping it. ($75 on Amazon for a set of 4) So when it warms up, I'll just swap them out. Don't need to pay Dealer a thousand dollars for something I can do for under $100.
I have seen many a gas cap issue, as well as other Id10T faults. I can at least reset them with the cheap scan-tool. If you have emissions check in your area, some won't even look @ your vehicle, just charge you and fail test sticker. even if it's an old gas cap code, or something else you have had fixed already.
Having my own also means I'm not going to have to trust the dealer is telling me the truth. I have seen way too many shops purposely mis-diagnose issues so you have to keep coming back.
