air bag light
I can't get this thing to go off. My friend set it off by taking the seat to far back. I have checked all of the wires. Nothing seems to be lose or poorly connected. What the hell is causing this? Thanks.
It most likely stretched the connection just enough to trip the light. I've been through this. There are connectors under the seat. Looking at them from in front of the seat, the small connector to the inboard side is the one you need to zip-tie (it's yellow). Zip-tie it as tightly as you can, but be careful not to pinch the wiring or you may damage it. Do it tight and then have the light turned off by someone with vagcom, and you should be good to go (you have to use vagcom to turn it off - it won't reset on its own). PM me with your email address if you want, and I'll send you a couple pics I took of mine when I fixed it (or you can search for "airbag light" and find my post about it - the pics are posted in there).
Having the light on doesn't mean that there's a code to read, but it does indicate that there is/was an airbag system malfunction of some sort. Given what he said about the friend sliding the seat back and triggering the light, and the fact that it happened to me, the solution I proposed above will likely fix the problem. The reason to turn off the light is so a) it's not annoying you by being on, and more importantly b) so that if there is a genuine malfunction for some reason, you'll be made aware of it. Turn the light off - you're better off doing so.
