Default Airbag light??!?

I drove my car home from milwakee, WI. I put 120miles on it coming home. Soon as I get home I let my old man drive it around the block (I was with him of course). And as soon as we put back in the driveway the Airbag light turns on. Any ideas....or is my car just mad at me for letting someone else drive it?

Sounds like you have the same problem as me, I have posted regarding this check it out, I would advise getting your local dealer/garage to put the Vag-Com on and check the module status it may just require re-setting but the little box of tricks will tell you. Otherwise your looking at an expensive job around $1000 I would estimate. I'll let you know how I get on with mine.

Andy, Let me know too. My light turned on a couple weeks ago and won't go off. I've read that it is normally the connection for the airbags under the passenger seat. The light still won't turn off though and you'll need a Vag in order to reset it if that's what the cause was. The dealership told me that it was a not true that the airbags will go off if you unplug the airbag connectors and plug them back in while the battery is still hooked up. Still need that Vag in order to clear the light unless you wanna unplug your battery.. But I don't know my stereo code.

Rgds,
General Jackson

had the code pulled...ended up being a driver side ingniter switch code($200 to replace the switch) but they said more commonly that code is set from a lose connection under the driver seat. They cleaned my connections cleared the code and i'm rollin good again. Once your code is set it will not reset on it's own, it needs to be cleared

genral...pulling your battery cable wouldn't do anything to get rid of your codes anyways, these cars are all OBD-2. Only older OBD-1 cars could have a code cleared by a simple battery cable removal.

The reason it came on when your old man got in the car is becuase he moved the seat. This is what usually trips the side airbag resistance code. Clear it and hope it doesnt come back...but it probably will, when you move the seat again.

I have to have my airbag sensors cleaned about once a month it seems. I do know that if that doesn't work you may have to get your seat replaced which is not cheap.

I figured my old man movin around in the seat was what triggered the code. But I've been told it's actually not an issue with replacing the seat if the problem keeps reoccuring. It's an issue with having the igniter switch for the seat replaced...or so I was told by a nearby shop that speicalizes in only audi and dubs
