Quick alarm question:

When I picked up my A4 at the dealer last December, the sales person casually mentioned to me that they could also upgrade the factory alarm system. Currently, when I lock my car with the key fob, I get a single, short, high-picked BEEP that seems to come from the rear bumper area. My question is: Is the Audi factory alarm upgrade an actual piece of hardware that has to be dealer installed, or is it just a programming issue that can be turned on using a vag tool? I would imagine that all the wiring necessary for such a factory option would already be installed @ the factory as the car is built. When it's installed, would my car horn beep instead of the small BEEP that I hear coming from the bumper?

 

he means u can buy an after market system u can get them at like best buy or circuit city for around 400 bucks

 

I knew that... I was wondering if the dealer sells a factory alarm option... you know one that uses the horn as the audible alarm, or would I have to go out & buy a Viper system or something to that effect?

So all I can expect to hear when I activate the factory alarm is a small beep coming from the rear bumper area? No horn? I wanted a louder sound, like a car horn, to go off if someone tries to break into my car. Sounds to me like if I want that, I'll hafta buy an aftermarket one.

 

i have the same issues with the quiet little chirp when i activate the alarm. there has got to be a way to change that to the horn with VAG. like with my previous car, if i forgot where it was parked i jst hit the lock button, horn would beep and kind let me know where the car was, it was coo...

 

That's what I'm looking to do. My gf's Camry has that... it's kinda nice.
