the LEDs flash fast for a short time then settle to a low 30 secs approx speed to inform you the system is ok

 

should they flash fast all the time then there is a fault and in this case look at all the switches doors/hood/trunk/trunk internal light, any switch/light will cause the alarm to go into stand by mode therefore the alarm will not be activated

also out of interest should the horn beep when i lock the car with the key rather than the remote ?

 

The horn should always sound when the car locks. If it doesn't sound it means it didn't lock. It won't beep if someones door didn't close properly or the trunk is open.
