Default Another Shifting Question

So, I was wondering what people thought about up/down shifting without the use of the clutch. I was taught how to do this by my old man, who drove a lot of heavy equipment and trucks. Since truck drivers are usually going through a lot of gears it helps them keep their left leg from falling off. I was just curious what everyone thought about it, and if anyone knows if it's bad for the car at all.

If you can do it properly it shouldn't be bad, but if you screw up, your synchros will hate you.

Why would you even want to chance ******* up your tranny/synchros???? If its a matter of lazyness, well someone should just go ahead and put you to sleep. Besides, the clutch action is half the fun of driving a manual.

Well it's quicker to shift that way drag racing.

I'd put more energy into heel-toeing. That will be way more fun when you learn it.

I was just wondering. I don't even have an A4 yet, and when I get one I don't plan on doing that. I was just doing a search and saw that nobody had ever mentioned it so I thought I would take a flaming and ask. [sm=icon_flaming.gif]

There really would be no point. You would have to rev match to get the gear to go in properly. I understand what you are saying but for "drag racing" this would really be pointless.

one that would suck for drag racing because the top of one gear is not the same tire speed as where you would start in the next gear so you would have to weight for your rpm's to drop

two. my neighbor who is a trucker says they use it to save there clutch. because to replace one of there cluthes its 3000+

i do this when i am tired beyound the point were i should really be driving. i never downshift unless im on the track since id like to put less stress on the clutch and id much rather replace the pads than a clutch. so really if this is the condition i will upshift without the clutch but thats about it.
