Mine seem's to be dead, spent ages trying to figure out what's making the tapping and it's come down to that.

Having the oil pressure checked on monday to make sure the pump is ok, but has anybody changed the chain?

Any tips on what bits to change would be good, cheers.

No it's the chain at the back of the engine mate, it's tensioned by oil pressure apparently and adjusts the valves.

make sure you change the tensioner in there too.

 

Yeah i think that's probably what's gone mate, when it's hot you can hear it slapping the chain back and forth.

 

If that is the problem I would get this taken care of asap. If the tensioner goes, you are going to be in a world of hurt.

 

Monday i'm getting the oil pressure checked out, an ex audi technician that i know has this neat testing machine that can test it from different points all over the engine, hopefully that'll eliminate the oil pump from the causes. Then look to just change that tensioner hopefully.

 

howd u get that diagram above? is there a service manual for the audi a4? 1995?
