I have never seen the chain being replaced but we have replaced enough of the tensioners ushally for a leaking issue though If it is tapping to muck I would suspect the pump is on its way out we all know thta oil pick up screen is to small and gets clogged up to easily

 

How much is that going to run me if I take it to a mechanic vs doing it myself (can I even do this myself?)

 

you don;t wanna change your own cam chain unless you know what your doing - seriously.

 

Seconded, it's not an easy job.

Book it's 3.5 hours, so for an amateur mechanic that's 5 hours, and if you get it wrong you could screw the engine.

 

Searching through the forum for engine noise and came across this one. As I understand this post the cam chain tensioner is operated by oil pressure. Correct? Can this get clogged or does it just wear out? My engine has become noticeably noisier since I bought it 10,000 miles ago and I'm trying to figure it out. Car now has 110,000 miles on it. I'm changing the oil tonight but knowing my luck something that simple won't fix it but it has to be done.

 

It's a program AUDI uses for ordering parts. (I have it also hehehe)

 

use 0W/40 full synthetic oil and change the oil filter, DJ don't keep your info secret

 

Hey where did you guys get the parts manuals from? Can it be downloaded or its all on CDs that have to be bought?
