I've been running 5w40 for a few months now fully synth mobil one, I know it's thinner than it should be but i wanted to give the engine a nice clean out and it's better for the turbo being nice an thin.

But i'm thinking of switching back to 10w40 as it taps like a bitch on warm start up, is that just to be expected on this engine?

 

I run 0W-40, but I seem to be burning more of it so I may go thicker.

 

this is volkswagen branded mobil1, and sorry its 5w40 just checked. Is that to thin?

Mine hasn't burnt any since i changed the oil 3 months ago, only done about 4k miles though.

 

i run 10W-30 mobile 1.

Mine always taps regardless. My car is tired.

I go to 10w40 in the winter

 

Wouldnt the thicker oil make it tap a lil more on startup because it takes it a lil longer to flow? My car (not audi) makes some noise on startup until the engine gets a little heat behind it.

 

Dont know what "TAP" means but I did an oil change ( 5w40 Castrol Synthetic) and ever since my car (99 Audi 2.8 Q) shakes/jolts. Hope the oil change has nothing to do with it, but I was wondering whats the most common brand everyone uses for their AUDI. Sorry to steal the thread PaulA4
