APR and GIAC
Well, I don't think APR supports a K04 upgrade, so that would count them out for me. Mine is a stage 3 TAP chip. I know a lot of people don't like the TAP chips, but I'm happy with mine. What did you get again? I think you said ARP???
I just got a Neuspeed chip and installed it today! WOW, what a difference! It completely took out the low-end turbo lag! I found a place on the web that sold if for $286 bucks! With the chip combined with my EVO Intake and my Neuspeed exhaust, my car feels like a completely different machine.
This is just having a tremendous amount of experience in being in the aftermarket car part biz for years, but a chip really won't help a non-turbo vehicle that much. You'd get more out of it if you put a cone filter and exhaust on it. On turbo cars, the adjustments they make on the chips adjust the boost pressure (which is set at a level for longevity sake on the turbo and US specs.) Every pound of boost that they add is a bit more than 7 horse power-INSTANTLY! They usually add between 4-7 lbs of boost to your stock settings. When you're dealing with non-turbo vehicles, they just adjust timing mostly. The only way to get more horsepower on non-turbo vehicles is simple....the more air in and the faster you get it out equals quicker motor response (i.e. more hp.)
