Auctioned A4
I will be attending an auction next week in hopes of getting a 99 A4 thats up for bidding. This is a state impounded vehicle. So its likely I will not have the keys to the vehicle. Knowing this I will have no clue if the car runs and wont be able to get inside. If the price is right I will get it regaurdless. I figure I can part it out if worst comes to worst.
The real question is how hard is it going to be to relock the whole car, ignition included. I replaced the ignition switch on my 96 so I'm guessing that shouldn't be too hard. And I'm doubting the outside locks and trunk would be too difficult. Is there an easier way to do this? Can audi/locksmith make me keys just from the VIN number?
Hopefully a week from today I'll have another A4...

yeah - they can find out what the original key code was and make you a new set. Well, actually I can only assume they can - Ford can do it so audi should be able to
- give your dealership a call, tell them what you are planning.

I actually just found everything i need of a junked audi on ebay. Its still not a fact that I will need it, its possible the car will have keys, so I think Im gonna hold off on it for right now...
You're local Audi dealership can definately cut you a key based on the VIN#. I just had to do it myself. I would suggest that you just buy the non-remote key from the dealership ($53.00) and get a used remote key off ebay or wherever to save about $100.00.and you'll have (2) keys.
Dealer wanted to charge me $170.00 for the remote key.

everytime the subject of an auction comes up, i'm reminded of a car i didn't get. i bid upto 4 grand on a mint 82 vette crossfire...and at 4 grand my dad was with me, and wouldn't let me bid any higher. the winner got it for 4.. i didn't talk to him for months. the car was completely restored, the exhaust was still silver, everything was brand new, even the leather interior. looked like the owner had just finished it recently and started taking it around town and got a dwi.
that sucks man, I'm hoping to get it for less than 4k but we'll see...
can someone run the VIN for me? WAUED28D0XA079202 Is it possible to know the color from the vin, I did find out its a 2.8?
