Hi Guys.. Just need to know if these engine are the same. I want to swap in a 1999 VW Passat 2.8 5v in a 1999 Audi A4 2.8 5v.... Is this the same exact engine?

dont think so... i tried to get few VW parts for my AUDI, but it didnt work. I’m not saying it’s impossible, u just might have to make few extra steps, need to change few other stuff to your engine.

 

 

yo from what ive learned from being on this site is that there not the same... i might be wrong but im about 90% sure that they are not the same

 

Both cars are built on the same platform so I would bet most parts are the same. I know the control arms packages are the same on the A4, A6, and Passat cars. So why would they make different engines? I bet the engine codes are even the same.

* Volkswagen Passat (1998-2003)
* Volkswagen Passat 4Motion (1999-2003)

 

I would put my money on the engines are the same

 

im gonna say their the same, ive seen many audis with that had a 2.8 ot 2.8t swapped in as a replacement engine.

 

Thanks guys.. my guess is they are the same. Both are 2.8 30v engines, even if I needed to swap something from the old engine to the new engine is fine... but i'm sure the engine itself is very much compatible.
