Default Audi A4 1.8T Questions

I have decided to get a 1.8T instead of a 2.8 V6 because I want turbo and I will be modifying as time progresses. This car will be my daily driving car up north (Rochester, NY). Now I was wondering I'm a little bit weary of the high mileage 1.8Ts, I will have roughly around 11K to play with this summer. So my options are:

1. Buy a low mileage (best i've seen so far is 75K mi) 1.8T for around 10K
2. Buy a High mileage (90K+ Mi) and rebuild
3. Buy a high mileage and do minor mods/maintainence
4. Buy a high mileage and chip, exhaust, intake and turbo upgrade

There are other possible solutions, but any I need some expert advice from you audi demi gods out there!!! Oh yeah how much would a motor rebuild cost and how long would it take??

haha, I would say get the lower mileage car and get a chip and call it a day. I love my 99.5 a4 1.8tq the power is low but is MORE then enough for me at this point (especially coming out of high HP DSM's). I will be getting a chip MAYBe within the next few months and from what I hear it makes a world of difference. I dont know what wheels they are but personally I like the stockers. Plus they will eat up power and negate the extra power your going to try and get. I would hate to see you line up against a sinilar modded car and have it walk on you.

But like I said go for a lower mileage car and look into saving for a warranty.

Well I'm coming off of a 98 Trans Am so I want the power, and spirited driving days I used to have, however i want reliablity. And I know for a fact that High boost+daily driving= something bound to break. So I am trying to find a healthy balance. And I kinda like those wheels, they would be for show, not the track. This car would occasionally see the track too, but not too often.

I think as far as tracking an audi (drag strip that is) You will be dissapointed. It takes alot more money to mod these then what you and me are used to. I would say autocross is where youll have the most fun with these cars as they handle very well. I bought my audi for a spirited drive on public roads with my significant other not for the strip. I had my DSM for that. What I said would be your best bet, light mods and youll have a very fun car not a speed demon.

I just sold my MR2 Turbo...and I'm looking into the A4. I'm in a similar boat as you, but I think I want to spend a little less on the car initially and have some more money for mods. I'm pretty sure I want to change the turbo to a k04 if I go the Audi route...but that's still just mild modding....

I see these cars sell with under 100k miles for $8k or $9k all the time, it just takes finding the right one. I guess the one thing I have picked up from searching this board over and over again is find a car that had maintenance already done! That way, you dont have to worry as much about mileage...there are plenty of low mileage cars that are about to need routine maintenance, and plenty of higher mileage cars that have already had a lot of things done and dont need anything. That's my thought process...the other car I'm looking at is a 328iS, but coming from the MR2...I feel better working with a turbo charged platform
