I've got a A4 B5 1996 1.9 TDI
The problem is as follows
When I try and start the car from cold it wont start, if I use quick start in the air intake it starts no problem and then will continue to start eventually (about 20 seconds) until I leave it over night again.
I have had all the electrical side checked out at a garage, the glow plugs have been replaced and the relays checked and they are all working fine.

has anybody got any suggestions that I can try before it has to go to a diesel specialist, keeping my fingers crossed it's not the diesel pump as it would probably be as cheap to replace the car.

Never heard of a TDI A4... Anyways does it have a MAF? Actually nevermind... I have no idea.

you don't run many turbo diesel cars in america do you

 

I cant walk down the street without seeing a Jeta TDI.... didn't knwo audi had an A4 TDI model... interesting, do they have it in newer years?

 

Most new audi models are available in Europe as a TDI

 

possible causes are coolant temp sensor/fuel leak and air getting into the system/fuel filter,

a common problem because of its age is the braided pipes that connect to each injector for lubrication the pipes rott and diesel can easily be seen all over them

maybe you have either a bad battery or fuel filter, fuel pump, high pressure/diesel distributor pump
