Audi A4 GIAC Chip HELP!
I am a college freshman Just got my Audi, So far it only has a K and N filter I am thinking about A GIAC chip... I have gotten mixed reviews so I am not sure if this is a good idea or what? please let me know if it is or isnt and why. Also is there any other upgrades i should do before I do anything with the chip I dont want to go with the exhaust system yet so anything besides that - becuase i am in college so most of my money is going there) Thanks!
Well it all depends if you own a 2.8 or a 1.8t if its 2.8 i beleive most people on here will tell you its not worth it but i heard that it eliminates the dead stop at low rpms. So its basically up to you if you want to spend the money on the chip. If you own a 1.8T It is definitaly worth it you can also look into APR chip which i heard isent as agressive as giac. You will need a new DV such as the 710n off the audi TT. You dont need an exhaust or anything else just chip and the new Dv. If you plan on going k04 stick with giac because they offer a upgrade for their program and apr doenst. I heard the chip makes a huge amount of difference in performance. Itll remove top speed governor and raise your rev limiter to 7100 rpm. So basically its definitaly worth it and its one of the best bang for the buck mods out there for the a4 1.8T.
apr claims more power then giac but they are the same thing so either one will work. Go to ecstuning.com and get a 710n dv for ~$38. The chips I hear is like night and day vs. stock, as well as improves gas mioleage if you drive normal and stay off the sauce.
If you're talking 1.8t...and you want performance...definitely chip it!! There are many great Chip Tuning Companies.
GIAC, APR, UPsolute, Revo, UNitronics, P-Chip.... As soon as you chip it..you'll need a DV upgrade..I had to replace the TT DV..didn't hold for me ( I don't know why so many people are saying it's okay to use on this forum). If it is the 1.8t you have..you can also be a few little things like, turbo inlet hose, you may want to get a short shifter (sportier feel) but it doens't add performance...not sure exactly what you are wanting to do...
BTW, All the chips can be tuned to your specifications..APR uses V-TUNE..GIAC is already pretty aggressive and the other manufactures can give you more aggressive files for your car if you want them.. Just get a local guy, someone who is close in case you have any issues with it. Also, make sure you, someone you know, or easily obtainable have a Vag-Com to run fault codes (your chip tuner will have one as well).
