Default audi a4 lack of power

Hi. Just bought audi a4 1999 1.8 apt engine, for the wife. Past mot with a new lambda sensor. But since we have had it, one minute it seems to go really well the next minute it, it seems to lack power. Although the car still runs very smoothly no misfire etc; Just wondering if it could be the cat or air leak or even fuel filter. Perhaps a coincidence but when low on fuel it lacks power. Also there is a clicking noise coming from a unit connected to the air box close to where lambda loom connects to the air box,is this normal. Does anyone have any clues as to why this is happening. I would very much appreciate any help.

Kind Regards Andy.

Default MAF Sensor?

Hey there Andy, it could be that you need to replace the mass air flow sensor. I'm not sure if it makes any clicking noises however it is connected to the airbox. I had the same problem, intermittent power, one minute power was normal and the next there was just no sack. I am not sure how to diagnose a bad one though cause I had the shop do the diag...

good luck
