Default Audi a4 tdi turbo problems

Hi there, hope your all well?
I'm new here so here goes...

Just about to pick an 1997A4 tdi 110bhp quattro up from a mate at a very cheap price, but there seems to be a boost issue. If you go over 80mph or give it some between 3 and 3.5rpm there is no boost. It only happens every now and then. When you switch the ignition off and on again it resets. Any ideas? Had it on Vag-com and all the errors listed have been sorted. Is this an actuator issue? Or turbo?

My second question is, I want a 200bhp tdi, so can I fit a PD 150bhp turbo and chip it? The engineI have is not a PD engine is it? So will a PD turbo fit?

Many thanks.

James

Man I wish B5 TDI's had been imported to the U.S.... See if you can get hold of Techbod - he's in the U.K. and he's a certified Technician, so I'm sure he's got at least some experience with your engine. He might even chime in on here in a while on his own.

Good luck, and welcome to AF!

Sorry I can't help with your question, but I wish we could buy TDI Audis in the USA! I think they may be (hopefully!) on the way in 2009?
