Hi, first time posting here, but thanks ahead of time, this looks like a very informative site. I just bought a 96 A4, 2.8, front wheel drive for my son(25). I was aware going in that this isn't a cheap proposition. Currently, I'm having the heater core, timing belt, and water pump replaced(proactive). The car has 160k on it, but is in near perfect exterior/interior condition. My question is, was there a factory yellow color available in this model. I have a feeling part of the car has been repainted, but just wondered if it originally could have started out that color. There are no signs of any other color anywhere. It is a cool car.

There was a pearl yellow but it was on later model years, not the 96. With the work being done, make sure you replace the thermostat, hydraulic tensioner, tensioner and idler rollers, and the serpentine belt along with the timing belt and water pump. Use only G12 coolant in the car. Welcome to AF, you'll be able to learn and likely do a lot of the work on this car with the help of this forum. Believe me, it'll save you a ton of money!

 

thanks for the info. these cars seem kind of complicated, but I'll keep reading. Luckily, a local mechanic(not audi) seems to know how to work on them. All of the above you mentioned are being done. 2k.
