Ok, here's the latest with my 98 A-4
Over last year, three times my car has drastically lost power to point where it would onlt go about 30mph.
This lasted for a day and the engine light went on. Audi dealer couldn't find the problem and the car magically healed itself and drove normally the next day. The most recent time was last Friday and the dealer found a fault code for the turbo and wanted to replace the turbo for $2,000 ! I told em not to mess with it that I wanted a second opinion and when I picked it up it was again magically healed. They reset the computer so the engine light was no longer on.
Now I'm spooked to drive any place far thinking it could happen again.

Next problem: My tiptronic has never worked for 2 years since I've owned it. Is it a sensor or what that operates the tiptronic system. I sure would like it to work. What's the typical issue with them.

 

what was the code? it could be linked to the tranny

 

The codes will help immensly

 

scan it again, autozone and see if the code is stored, also the next time this happens get the codes. this sounds like a case of the car going into limp mode. as for the tranny the problem may be associated with the TCU having problem

 

I'll contact the dealer and ask about the code. What exactly is limp mode?

 

the dealer will most likely not give it to you, nor will they keep record of it

limp mode is when the computer limits the amount of boost a 2-3 psi
