I need another key made so I thought I'd check out eBay to see if I can pick up an uncut key. So far, I've ran into more questions than solutions. I check the part number on my current key (4DO 837 231 T) and it doesn't match anything I have found on eBay. The closest one I found is this one:

97-02 BR NEW_AUDI Remote w UNCUT HAA Key! Progr.incl

Which the FCC Id matches the one on my current key. Can anyone help me out? Its a little different from my original key (which only has "lock" and "unlock" buttons). This one seems to have an exta trunk release button.

Also, here's a few more questions:

1. What's the difference with keys that are HAA vs. ones that arent?
2. Does 2001 A4 keys have immobilizers?
3. How much do keys go for at the dealer?
4. If my dealer refuse to cut the key I bought from eBay what are my options?

 

I don't know about the canadian FCC IDs but that ebay remote will work. I have both styles with and without the trunk unlock button. They're both programmed the same way.

Does the letter at the end of the part number has to do with anything? There seems to be several out there: E, M, K, etc... but all with identical numbers before it. For instance:

AUDI A4 A6 A8 TT KEYLESS REMOTE ENTRY FOB UNCUT KEY

Anyone else can help me with my other questions? Btw, what does Fob mean?

 

I doubt if they make any difference. There are two remotes for a 98-2001 b5, the one with trunk unlock button ends in 63, the no trunk unlock button ends in 64. Cost of key cutting depends on the dealer, I payed $63, others paid as little as $15 somewhere else. I doubt if a dealer would refuse to cut your ebay key if the cutter is on site. Fob (Forward Operating Base) no j/k its just another word for remote.
