Default Audi Keys

Hi -

I have a 1995 Audi S6 and a 98 A4 2.8L AWD/QUATTRO and I need extra keys for both cars since I have a nasty habit of misplacing keys way too often [X(]

At any rate, both cars were purchased used and only came with one key/set of keys (S6 has one key w/remote button for the infared system on the back that I don't think works - the A4 has a set of two keys/one for locks and one for ignition.

I do not have the original key code tab that allegedly came new with both vehicles(and all Audis, or so I'm told) and was given conflicting stories by the dealer (once by phone and once in person based on what I was told by the dealer on the phone).[:@]

I was originally told that all keys can be ordered and made and that the code, as long as I had means of proving that the cars were mine(presumablyto proveI wasn't trying to get a set of keys to lift someone else's Audi), getting all pertinent codes and such would be no problem with said proof of ownership and the VIN for both vehicles.

So, based on this information, I set off to order keys (yeah, I know...dealer prices...OUCH !!! I'll address that later !) at the same dealership. When I got there, I spoke with the parts manager, not the same person I chatted with on the phone, who all but said that if I did not have that tab that originally came with the car for the keys, I'm all but screwed for ever getting other keys for either car. She claimed that Audi WILL NOT EVER provide codes (even, supposedly, to dealers) for keys without that tab.[:@][:@]

Now, I'm not trying to be a pain here but, human nature being what it is, things get lost over time and such and, as I mentioned earlier, Imisplace my keys quite often (not proud, but it happens). You can't tell me that it's not likely over the course of time and several owners that it's impossible to lose that original key tab code thing !!!!

Surely it cannot be true that I cannot get the PROPER extra keys for my own vehicles with proper proof of ID and ownership given the nature of Audi keys and their chips and such ?????

My next question is, is there any reputable way, besides via an exorbitantly priced dealer, of getting the proper key blanks with key headsAND getting them cut and programmed in western Pennsylvania ?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated !!!!

Default RE: Audi Keys

Neither of those vehicles have immoblizer so im not sure what code the dealer would need. Any key cut to fit the ignition should work. You have a couple options. You can order blank keys from either the dealership(that may be a dead end with their knowledge) or get some blanks off the internet. Then find someone to cut the keys. Some dealers have the key cutting machine and others dont. Some locksmiths also have the ability to cut audi keys. Youll just have to call around. If you find a locksmith that can cut keys they can probably provide blanks for you.
