Audis use an interference engine design so the timing belt is a critical replacement at about 80-100k

it will cost around $800..most of that is labor costs so if you have the knowledge you can save a lot of money buy doing it yourself

well dont get too excited.. some dealers will quote you in the G's for that. Look for a specialized audi mechanic in your area if youre not going to do it yourself. Try to stay away from the dealer as much as possible to save money

I recommend all 1.8t timing belts done between 70-80,000. your manual will say recommended at 105,000 (on older ones at least)but they never last that long. the teeth always sheer off or the tensioner goes and you end up buying a cylinder head. also make sure to use synthetic oil. 1.8's have oiling problems if the car isnt maintained well. oil pumps go bad alot. so if the oil light ever comes on dont drive it anymore, you can save yourself buying an engine. suspension arm ball joints, tie rod ends also go bad often.

well I would never take it to a dealership to get it fixed, I had to change my right rear wheel bearing and the dealship quoted me at $1200, I bought the part for $132 and replaced it myself, I'm just worried because I've got 93,000 on my beast and I haven't changed the belt yet, I guess I better start saving.
