Default Audi steps up, big time!

Hey everyone. I've been absent from the forums for a bit. A little vacation does the soul a lot of good. When I got back I had a letter from Audi. They have decided to warranty oil sludge problems on the 2000 A4 1.8t! That happened to me at 107,000 and required a new pump assembly and several hours in labor to do. All in all it cost me abour $850.00 for the repair and about $150.00 for towing and a rental car. Send in the reaceipts and they'll send a check. Awesome. They included a list of approved oils to help prevent the sludge problem. Here they are for those interested.

Castrol 5W40
Chevron 5W40
Elf 5W40
Kendall 5W40
Mobil 1 0W40
Penzoil-Quakerstate 5W30 and 40
Seventysix lubricants 5W30
Texaco 5W40
Total 5W40
Valvoline 5W40

Strange the only Mobil 1 listed is 0W40, I've always used 5W40 myself. Anyone else get this letter?

Oddly, the only thing they had to suggest with regards to prevention was to use those oils they listed. I've owned mine since it was new and I can honestly say I've never been over mileage for an oil change and it still happened to me. I think the new pump assembly has a redesigned screen on the uptake tube. The old one would allow junk to stuck in between layers of the screen. When you turn the car off the new screen just allws any particles to fall off that screen back down into the oil pan. Quart of tranny fluid once and a while will take care of any deposits in that engine. Course it fills up an oi filter in about 150 miles.

actually my issue was a sensor problem.

sensor replaced, problem solved

they ran the car for almost an hour driving around w/ a manual oil pressure guage hooked up where the sensor goes in and never got a pressure drop

been drivin the car for a while and light hasnt come back on.
