Hello all, Im hoping to get some feedback or some validation to this. I have an '03 A4 1.8T Q with 61k miles on it still covered under the Certified pre-owned warranty. The check engine light came on so off to the dealership it went. The dealership notified me that it was in fact the Catalytic converter (spelling?) and that although it was not covered under the extended warranty, it was covered under the 8 year 80k mile emissions warranty. (that I didnt even know it came with) so not to big of a deal it was to cost me approx $140 for the diag and some other silly parts that were not covered. Was told the part would not be inuntill this Friday.

Here's where it gets interesting.

Just about an hour ago I get a call from the dealership. The service rep is telling me that Audi corporate called the parts department first to see if the part had arrived (it had not) then was transfered to him. Audi wants to know if I would be willing to have them run tests on my car out in California. (I live in NJ) He is telling me I would be without my car for about 1 month and that they would provide me with a loaner in the meantime. They would ship my car out there and see why at 61k miles the car would come back with an error code for thre cat'.

Well the service rep said he had never heard if this and we both agreed that it would be better for me to speak directly with the person from corporate to square away any details if and only if I am willing to participate.

Anyone ever hear of this? Is it legit? What exactly will they be doing to the car? I dont want them taking apart the engine just for kicks and putting it all back together next thing I know I have all sorts of issues down the road. AND what do I get out of the deal?

well find out what they are going to be doing and have them document everything. also anything major that you do tell them you want to be notified and have the ability to tell the weather they can and can not do to your car.. get it all in writing thats the best thing if you are willing, never send your car anywhere with out some type of agrement in writing.. also tell them you want to pick the loaner (RS4 )

 

A couple of years ago, a co-worker of mine was asked by Chevy to borrow his light-duty truck to do some factory engine work/mods on it in Michigan. So, it is not a common occurrence, but I guess it does happen. If you agree to do it, get EVERYTHING in writing! I would talk with someone @ corporate to see why they want your car. An RS4 loaner would be sweeeeet!

 

yea, make sure its legit
and tell them you would like monitary re-embursement for having to deal with not having your car for a month
then tell them you want like an rs4 or and rs6 loaner... or push them for the r8

I work for CNH ( a farm equipment company) I worked in the Test enginering dept. Meaning I worked on the proto types before they became production. We handled all warranty parts to see if there was a recall in order or not. Never would we pay for shipping of a vehicle back to us - its much easier to take the piece and put it on a test unit. This might be an item that is giving them reason for a recall and your just ended up being the one they chose to try to test-

1. they'll fix everything for free
2. ask for more warranty beyond 100k
3. get a free t-shirt that says I gave my audi to audi and all I got was this stupid t-shirt
4. get an Rs4 as a loner
5. talk with the rep - find out EXACTLY what they will be doing. get it in writing
6. don't worry about them tearing everything apart - they do it for a living - they would most likely replace anything they see a problem with - good for you in the end.

all in all your call - But I say go for it.

 

Since Im coming up pretty quick on 70k miles I was thinking about telling them I want my timing belt done for my troubles.

Sounds suspicous.Never heard of anything like that, but def take a Q7 if they are willing!

 

got any mods on the car that might void something, that might also be a problem once they get your car, if so put it back to stock while they have the car, don't want to void the cat warrenty
