Default auto reverse gear worry

I have a A4 1.8T se Advent on a 02 plate. Its an automatic gear box. Every now and then when i put the car in reverse it feels and sounds like the cluctch is slipping, what i mean, when you select reverse i feel it engage but when you rev the engine the car hardly moves but the reves go up. The car has done 98k miles. is this a fault and does it mean the gearbox is on its way out.

You may have a pressure leak and the only reason it just in reverse that you are noticing the problem is because reverse takes the most pressure. Have your car check out soon before more damage is done

Just come back after havong to drive the car over 600m in a week and all seems ok but the reverse still plays up. if it was low on fluid, would this do it and if so how do i check it. One thing i have noticed is when you have the problem with it not reversing and you change it to drive, the PNRD flashes. If you turn the engine off and restart then the PNRD no longer flashers and just shows which gear your in which is nornal. I paid 5K for the car a couple of weeks ago, its go 90k on the clock, full audi history, been really looked after. Its on a late 02 plate. 1.8t SE.advent . what would it be worth if i get the auto box fixed or have i paid to much.

Could be anything from low fluid to solenoids.

When the car lights up all gears, it means that the transmission is being put into a protective "limp" mode.

Find a mechanic who specializes in Audi/VW or use the vagcom locator to find someone with a vagcom who can check for codes in the transmission control unit.

It could be something as simple as low fluid, or something more complex.

The transmission is a "sealed" unit and doesn't have a dpstick, The only way to tell if the fluid level is correct is to have the car perfectly level, the transmission slighly warm ( around the block a few times), and pump in fluid from the fill hole underneath the transmission until it starts to leak out.
