awd vs. 4 wheel
What do you think will go better in snow(normal driving)? audi awd or a jeep 4x4. Both with snow tires. Im think awd because of weight distribution and 4 wheel has different differentails more favourable for mud and off road use. What do u guys think?
4 wheel drive has locking differentials and a transfer case. so when not in the snow you can go 2 wheel drive. plus jeeps are indestructable. Believe me I had one and I put it thruogh so much abuse.
Well if your talking about a wrangler you can't compare the two at all bc your talking stripped out military vehicle made for the road vs. german sport sedan.
Personally i wouldn't take any Jeep over an Audi vehicle simply bc of build quality. I have owned and driven a Nissan Maxima Se, Lexus Sc 400, Pontiac Trans Am, GMC Sonoma, and an Audi A4 in that order. I have owned a large part of the spectrum of cars out there for somebody my age and nothing compares to the Audi with the exception of the Lexus coming close but that was also a very different car.
With the audi your getting comfort, quality, sporty looks, good aftermarket support, and room for the friends while still having a car that gets decent mileage.
When i think of jeeps, and from my experience working on them as a former body shop worker, they are just another american car where many corners were cut to lower build costs.

no, 4wd's are not locking differentials...
my 4wd truck (as with most) had open front and rear differentials...
the only benefits an SUV has are high and low gearing for the 4wd, and bigger tires...
even trucks with offroad packages (Toyota TRD) only have rear locking differentials...

I grew up driving Jeeps (Cherokee) - it all my dad ever bought. My A4 is better in the snow than a jeep. My dad even agreed when he drove it. And I only had all seasons on the car.
i had a jeep for my first car and it handled good in the snow, this upcoming winter will be the first time i drive the audi in the snow, so i donno. but from what i hear audis r good in the snow
In deep snow a 4wd like a wrangler (which does have locking diffs) would be much better, with the increased ground clearence you'd be less likely to plough.
But on ice and thin coverings of snow Audi would be better, road tyres are much better on ice than 4x4 tyres, plus audi has weight spread more evenly, jeep is light over the back.
