Thanks for clarifying my noobishness Dan

Onepoint8, I could be wrong, but I think the auto tranny fluid is something Audi says "is good for the life of the car" but dilligent owners get changed once or twice regardless. I could be wrong on that, but I'm at work and too busy to search. I think just topping it off with Dexron or Type F fluid is good enough for me (I'm at 43K miles) but I might flush the fluid when I get my timing belt done at 80K or so. If its really dark red or black, change it up. I've heard it costs about $150 and people with higher milage have said it makes for much smoother shifts.

Since there is no dipstick you need a vagcom to read the levels properly. And Audi does say the auto tranny fuid never needs replacing which is CRAP. Basically if you notice slips or delays in shifting go to a reputable performance shop and have them do it. Shine Racing Service in Walpole MA is on that will do the tranny fluid.

For the most accurate fill, the fluid temp should be about 49 degrees centigrage. and of course the car has to be perfectly level. A vagcom helps in monitoring the fluid demperature.
